Reflection on my Knowledge and Understanding of the Topic and Global Context
In terms of the topic, I would say I am much more confident with understanding and identifying different dog breeds, their personalities, and how they can click with personalities of people and their daily routines. Extensive research – including both primary and secondary – has helped me achieve this. I was also able to gain first-hand experience as well as communicate with experienced people. This really helped me grow as a dog-lover as it has widened my knowledge on the topic. I have always been passionate about dogs; however, I never got the chance to learn about them to this extent and whilst linking them to peoples’ lives. This project has definitely aided me with the initiative to conduct such research and grow my knowledge. The global context, identities and relationships, is one which I have normally struggled to understand the concept of. It is so vague and broad in terms of many different topics which can come from it. Linking something – like dogs – which I am passionate about, to this global context, has helped me grasp the key points which come from it. I was able to relate to the global context by gaining research and information which connected dogs to humans. I am now much more capable of developing a link between identities and relationships and almost any topic out there.
Reflecting on my development as an IB learner
As an IB learner, I would say I have developed specifically three IB learner profiles throughout the process of this project. One of which being Inquirer. I was encouraged to seek information in order to perform lots of research, like when I interviewed Mr. Anthony, as well as include relevant, honest information in my product. I was able to gain the knowledge that I currently have due to the development of this IB learner profile. The second one would be thinker. As a thinker I was able to generate creative ideas for my scrapbook when designing each page, as well as solve problems to the issues that arose in the process. Being a thinker helped me overcome obstacles and strive for the best possible outcome of everything I did. Lastly, I used and developed my reflective skills, mostly when report-writing. I am now much more capable of identifying strengths and weaknesses on previous actions, as well as apply the experience to improve future events.
Overall Reflection on the project
Overall throughout my project, I am very proud of the way I was able to develop skills, understanding, knowledge, experience, and much more! This project has helped me grow as a student in numerous ways. I am much more confident in project management and time management most of all. I would say the most challenging experiences were to do with organization and timing. This has always been a problem for me and I was forced to overcome this issue through the development of this project. It was tough due to the constant deadlines, and being forced not to procrastinate, which honestly helped me a lot in other subjects as well because I feel that overall I have definitely become much more time-aware and organized as a student. Not only did I improve as a student in all the above ways, but it was also an exciting and fun process! creating the scrapbook took a lot of time and patience, however, it was worth it because I cherish every moment of it - even the tough ones! If I were to attempt a similar project in the future, something I could improve would be planning even more specifically, in terms of which days I was going to do what, and maybe even at what time, if I were to really challenge myself.
